This is a shot of a banana bloom. This tree is at least 3 years old. Once it produces a bloom and a stalk of bananas, the tree will die.

This is another type of banana known as musa ornada. It does not produce an edible banana, but has a beautiful bloom.

Musa ornada will sometimes set a small fruit. It is about two inches lond and less than 1/2 inch in diameter. It will have two or three seeds in the fruit.
